Tree Trimming & Pruning Experts
Correct tree trimming can allow a tree to flourish and prosper for years. At Porterfield Stump & Tree, we are trained and experienced in all aspects of tree pruning and tree trimming techniques.
Making a proper tree pruning or tree trimming cut allows the tree to naturally seal the cut in a clean and healthy way. The limb should be trimmed back to the branch collar for a more effective healing process.
Trees near structures often require a crown cleaning, for the purpose of removing dead, diseased, or broken branches. When trimming a tree, one should select specific branches in order to improve air flow, tree structure, and light penetration. This will all result in a healthier, sturdier, and safer tree.
At Porterfield Stump & Tree, we have years of experience in helping residents of Watkinsville, and Athens, Georgia, preserve the life and beauty of their trees through pruning and trimming.
Tree Trimming & Pruning Techniques
Tree Thinning
Tree Thinning refers to trimming your tree by the process of selectively removing branches and limbs from a tree in order to create less wind resistance, lessen the amount of weight carried by the tree, as well as increase the amount of light that is seen by the inner crown of the tree. Trimming down the fullness of trees is an effective way to allow the wind to move more freely through the branches which decreases the chances of branches breaking and causing injury or property damage.
Tree Shaping
There are many forms of tree shaping but in terms of most residential tree trimming, tree shaping refers to the trimming of a tree in a way that causes the tree to take on a specific shape. We can trim the outer edges of your tree’s crown to take on a circular shape, or even trim trees to reserve its natural shape. Whatever your tree shaping goals may be, it takes a skilled tree service professional with knowledge of tree growth patterns and an eye for creativity. In cases of extreme tree shaping, an experienced arborist can manipulate and trim a tree to take on any shape, and grow according to the arborist’s design.
Tree Topping
Tree topping is a poor tree trimming practice used to control the size and growth of a tree. Usually when a tree encroaches on power lines or reaches a height that is otherwise unsafe or undesirable, inexperienced tree trimmers will top the tree, or cut the top of the tree off. Trimming a tree in this way could kill your tree, and will leave it looking unnatural. Trees should almost never be topped. At Porterfield Stump and Tree we are happy to evaluate your tree’s needs and assist you with a variety of other tree trimming alternatives that will keep your tree alive and healthy.
Crown Lifting
Lifting your tree’s crown is accomplished by trimming and removing the lower branches of your tree and creating space between the lowest branches and the ground. Trimming your tree’s lower branches will allow others to walk, drive or build under the tree safely. If your tree is growing over a sidewalk or road it is your responsibility to make sure that your tree does not cause an obstruction to cars or pedestrians. Another benefit of trimming the lower branches of your tree’s crown is that it will allow more light to pass through the tree’s canopy, adding to a tree’s overall health.
Crown Reduction
Crown reduction is the proper way of tree trimming in order to lower the height of your tree’s crown. Using this appropriate method of tree trimming, our tree trimmers are able to reduce the height of your tree without removing any dangerous proportions of the tree. We deploy advanced tree trimming techniques to reduce the size of your tree’s crown without bringing harm to your tree.
